Skull Wines - White Wine 2021 - 750ml Bottle

This spunky little white is a blend of five grapes--24% French Colombard, 20% Sauvignon Blanc, 20% Chardonnay, 18% Clairette, 18% Riesling--sourced across five vineyards: Ricetti, Calvinco, Hawkeye, Martian Ranch and Coal Ranch. Monte Rio is a collaboration of Patrick Cappiello (rock star somm) and Pax Mahle (rock star winemaker). Mitch and I know Patrick from an era when we’d regularly visit NYC for trade tastings and grab a bite and a bottle at Pearl and Ash or Rebelle—Patrick’s former restaurants. Both Patrick and Mitch have a reputation for sabering Champagne and bonded. When we realized Patrick’s wines weren’t represented in CT, we reached out to one of our distributors to bring them in and here they are. MRC Blanc is made in a combination of neutral oak and stainless steel. The resulting wine is a true quaffer--light on its feet, spicy, and delicately floral. Perfect for warm weather—and very versatile at the table: pair it up with pesto tortellini salad, gazpacho, chicken skewers, or kale Caesar salad. 300 cases made.

Skull Wines is a collaboration between longtime friends Patrick Cappiello (Monte Rio Cellars) and Pax Mahle (famed Rhone Ranger). Patrick and Pax's philosophy is to make hand-crafted wines in the spirit of old California. With this idea in mind, they work with family-owned, organically farmed vineyards and keep the winemaking simple. This fun sparkling wine is fermented in a combination of stainless steel and old wood barrels after each grape was fermented separately.
